GPs are usually in business as partners.......Consultants tend to be employees, but may be in business with their private work.

General practice is, I feel, a special case. We are unable to sell any "good will" that we build up by being a good practice, good managers etc. It feels to me that general practice is actually a type of atypical Government franchise!
